About: A subject that will no doubt always crop up when discussing Islam. "What is Islam's verdict on Homosexuals?", "Is their punishment stoning to death?", "Why is Islam so harsh towards Homosexuality?". This lecture explores homosexuality in Islam and looks at it from a classical Islam perspective. What were the opinions of our pious predecessors and what is the official opinion in the Hanafi school. A relevant and explosive talk which clears up the accusation that Muslims are out to 'get' homosexuals. A must watch for those interested in contemporary issues.

About: Disability is many a time seen as a negative in our societies, especially Muslim societies where someone is not given the equal right or opportunity as his or her counterpart.  However classically it was very different. The Shaykh gives the audience a shock when he expresses the different sahaba or our pious predecessors that are known by nearly every Muslim but were disabled in some way. Watch the lecture and find out who these stars of the Ummah were.

About: Yet another brilliant talk, tackling the recent bout of stupidity that has arisen amongst some remarkably misguided Muslims of a certain persuasion about this topic. Some today claim that Arabs are superior over Non-Arabs. The lecture explores this in detail and analyses arguments on both sides.

Course Text: Futuwwa - The Way of Sufi Chivalry by Abu Abdur Rahman Sulami

About: Abu Abdur Rahman Sulami (936 AD - 1026 AD) was a highly respected Sufi saint and Scholar of the 10th Century. He compiled this book Futuwwa - The way of Sufi Chivalry’ as a guide to enlightened behavior for the spiritual aspirant. Sulami records accounts and teachings of spiritual masters as well as tales and quotations from the Quran and Hadith. The teachings reveal the true meaning of compassion, love, friendship, generosity, and hospitality, as well as the right actions associated with these virtues. According to the Sufis, Futuwwah is a code of honorable behavior that follows the example of the prophets, saints, and sages. By adhering to its precepts, the student learns detachment from the ego. In this lecture, the Shaykh gives a commentary on the beautiful pages of the book with stories from Quran, Hadith and real life accounts he experienced in his own life as well as those sat in the audience.

About: A detailed and honest look from the perspective of classical Islam. This tackles the issue of 'engagement', where basically it is allowed for me to engage my child for marriage to another child when they are still too young to make up their own mind. Islamically, such an arrangement cannot be consummated, according to the ijma of the scholars, until both parties are mature and agree to consummate. But what if by then the girl in particular is not happy with the arrangement? The man can just divorce, but is the woman not unfairly restricted by having to go to a judge or having a pre-nuptial? What if her father or guardian just married her off for nefarious reasons? Is she forced to have sex with her husband? All this is explained honestly and without deception or sophistry.

About: Islamophobes love to assert this, along with holding Islam accountable for slavery in general. This absurdity has been refuted even by Orientalists but the refuge of Evangelicals nowadays is to assert that Muslims 'rape their captives'.  Shaykh Atabek looks at the issue and gives the factual, most authentic evidence on this matter to clear up all the misconceptions (deliberate and non-deliberate) involved around the issue.

About: Islam has been accused of complicity with the monstrosity of female genital mutilation (FGM): nothing could be further from the truth, but as this brilliant talk shows, it is the unbelievably barbaric pronouncements of certain 'Muslim scholars' which are feeding the misunderstanding and Islamophobia. A must watch, especially for female adherents of the Salafi movement and Ibn Taymiyyah, as popularised in the UK by iERA and Hamza Tzortzis.

About: "My Ummah will be split up into 73 sects, all will be in hellfire except one...that will be the Ahle Sunnah wal Jamah." A common hadith narrated by many sects and denominations. But who is this one saved sect, or is there any such thing as a "saved sect"? how authentic is the narration in the first place? Who were the claimants to this title in the past. This lecture will explore the different aspects of this narration and go deep into its meaning and its consequences.
